POSITION TITLE: Grant Writer

REPORT DIRECTLY TO: Executive Director

I. BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The grant writer will be responsible for supporting Schott Communities by writing proposals for foundations, corporations and individuals for both grant and gift support and to identify potential sources of income at the state and federal levels.

II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Acquires and maintains an understanding of Schott Communities and all programs and projects for which grants and other support will be sought.
2. Conducts prospect research and assists in the identification of potential foundation, corporate and individual support.
3. Researches and analyzes identified prospects for potential matches with appropriate programs and projects.
4. Writes proposals and grant applications as appropriate for selected foundations, corporations and individual donors.
5. Reviews program/project budgets and make recommendations to best present them to grant-making entities.
6. Maintains contact with grant-making entities as submitted proposals are reviewed.
7. Ensures the submission of progress reports when required
8. Performs other job related work as assigned by the Executive Director.

III. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
1. A bachelor’s degree is required.
2. Minimum of three years experience writing proposals to private foundations and corporations as well as state and federal agencies.
3. Proven ability to work independently, meet multiple deadlines and work under pressure.
4. Knowledge of database management, word processing, spreadsheets, internet navigation and e-mail systems.
5. Ability to use tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness in the implementation of fundraising initiatives.
6. Exceptional expository writing skills with an outstanding command of grammar and spelling.
7. Ability to conduct research, develop work plans and formulate budgets independently.
8. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele, peers and staff.
9. Ability to work on a flexible schedule.
